Domain Controller Part 1


Below are the task that have been performed : 
1. Creating Domain Controller (DC1)
2. Using sysprep to clear configured settings.
3. Change the IP Address and Computer Name
4. Promoting DC1 to be Domain Controller.
5. Creating users on Active directory.
6. Creating and attaching a iSCSI virtual disk

1. Creating Domain Controller (DC1)










2. Using sysprep to clear configured settings.
sysprep is used to deploy a Windows image to different PCs, you have to first generalize the image to remove computer-specific information such as installed drivers and the computer security identifier (SID). You can either use Sysprep by itself or Sysprep with an unattend answer file to generalize your image and make it ready for deployment.




System Cleanup Action : Enter System Out-of-BoxExperience(OOBE)
Check :Generalize 
Shutdown Options: Reboot











3. Change the IP Address and Computer Name

IP Adrress: 192.168.10.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0


Computer Name: DC1
Member of : WORKGROUP



Server restarts for applying changes.


4. Promoting DC1 to be Domain Controller.

After server has started, we need to promote this server to become a domain controller.
Open Server Manager and click on Add Roles and Features Wizard.


Select Role-based or feature-based installation

Select   --- Select a server from the server pool.

Check Include management tools.

Check Active Directory Domain Services

Check Group Policy Management




Click on Promote this server to a domain controller

Select Add a new forest

Root domain name : sql.local

Provide password for DSRM


The NetBIOS domain name : SQL

Let the directories be default.


Check whether prerequisite checks have passed.

Hit install



Check Domain name is sql.local 


5. Creating users on Active directory.

Create a new Organization Unit  -- FCI users
FCI : Failover Cluster Instance




Adding user SQLACCT to the FCI Organisation Unit




Adding user SQLAGENTACCT to the FCI Organisation Unit






6. Creating and attaching a iSCSI virtual disk

Open Server Manager and select new iSCI Virtual Disk Wizard to create and attach a 5 GB disk.


Check iSCI Target Server



Click Install





Name : iSCSI-Virtaul-Disk-2


Click Add and enter IP Address : 192.168.10.1

Click Add and enter IP Address : 192.168.10.2
